Lee County Board of Commissioners,

Mr. Ruane was appointed to the Sanibel City Council to serve an interim position in February 2007. In May 2007, he was elected for a seat on the City Council. He was re-elected in March 2009 and was appointed Mayor of Sanibel in March 2010.
Kevin was elected to the Lee Board of County Commissioners in 2020; in 2024 he was re-elected for his second term.
